Letter from the Founder of the

Sri Lanka America Association of Southern California

(SLAASC-Founded in 1973)

Jayam Rutnam

Dear Friends,

On Saturday, April 18th at 9:00 a.m., the Sri Lanka America Association of Southern California (SLAASC) will hold its election for President. The election will take place at the Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Temple,

1847 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019.

For the first time in many years, we have two candidates contesting for the position of President:

Don Wijesinghe and Sucharitha Randeniya.

According to the SLAASC Constitution, only Corporate Members (including Life and Family Members) are eligible to vote. To do so, members must meet all required conditions: they must be officially recognized Corporate Members who have agreed to abide by the Constitution, have been accepted into membership, and have paid the required dues. In addition, they must have paid the current year’s membership fee prior to the close of nominations. Members must also be physically present at the election meeting, as voting is limited to those in attendance and no absentee ballots are permitted.

Regardless of the outcome, it is important that we come together to support the duly elected President and the new Committee.

The candidate who is not elected this year will always have the opportunity to run again in the future.

This Association belongs to all Sri Lankans and their families. Let us work together to make the SLAASC an even greater success.

Remember, in unity there is strength!

Warm regards,

Jayam Rutnam

Founder, SLAASC (1973)
