Hayleys completes 800kW solar project for LSEG Sri Lanka

Hayleys Solar, Sri Lanka’s No.1 solar solutions provider, has successfully completed an 800kW rooftop installation for London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), marking a significant milestone in the country’s corporate renewable energy landscape. The project involved complex engineering requirements, including extensive underground cabling across an active corporate site. Hayleys Solar executed the installation with a zero-accident record, maintaining strict safety and operational standards throughout.

Newly appointed Consul General Achini Perera graced the Aluth Avurudhu/Puthandu celebrations at Woodley Park, Ca. Her Excellency Achini Perera is a career diplomat whose previous assignments were in Dubai, New Delhi and Tokyo.

She holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations (First Class) from Annamalai University, India, a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Honours) from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura. The SLAASC extended a warm welcome to the Consul General at the celebrations. The new Consul General addressed the gathering at the park.

The traditional “boiling of the milk” ceremony was watched by the new Consul General Achini Perera, President of the SLAASC Aruna Fernando, Vice President Don Wijesinghe and Committee members Prasanna, Lakruwani, Prabha, Anil and others. A record crowd of hundreds attended this popular event organized by the SLAASC.

Cal State LA honors Rupa Purasinghe with Outstanding Professor Award at 2025 University Convocation and Investiture

Rupa Purasinghe, a Professor of Civil Engineering at Cal State Los Angeles, was named a recipient of one of the four 2024-2025 Outstanding Professor Awards. He was honored for his significant achievements in teaching, research, and service. He has chaired the Civil Engineering and Technology departments, where he led strategic academic and industry-aligned initiatives to strengthen applied learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and workforce development.

Obituaries – Sad News

Dr. Nihal C. de Lanerolle, DPhil, DSc

Dr. Nihal C. de Lanerolle, DPhil, DSc, (80) passed away on March 25, 2026, at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.

Dr. de Lanerolle will be remembered not only for his pioneering scientific contributions, but also for his humility, intellectual depth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Outside of his professional life, he enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, playing squash and badminton, traveling, and hiking. He is survived by his brother, Ralph, and his nephew, Trishan. 

Tissa Benjamin de Alwis – Husband of Ianthe,​ father of Tivanka and Sanoj,​ father-in-law of Adriana and seeya of Maia and Lenka,​ son of the late Shelton and Lily De Alwis and son-in-law of the late Ernest and Dagmar Mendis,​ brother of Nimal,​ Gamini,​ Parakrama,​ Niranjanee and Christopher and brother-in-law of Prasanna,​ Tarini and Ravi (Lal). Funeral service was on April 1st at the General Cemetery,​ Borella (Roman Catholic Section)

Recipes From Roma's Kitchen

Sri Lankan Bibbikan

Ingredients

1 medium-sized coconut 

  (1-1 1/2lb.)

2 lbs. Jaggery

1/2 lb. Cadjunuts

2 teaspoons clove powder

cardomon and cinnamon powder (to taste)

1/4lb white wheat flower

1/2 lb. Sugar

2 ozs. ginger preserve (cut very fine)

2 teaspoons grated rind of lime

2-3 oz. Seedless sultanas (optional)

 

METHOD

1.Scrape coconut. Extract as much coconut milk as possible.

2.Pound coconut.

3.Dissolve Jaggery and Sugar with coconut milk. Add salt. Bring to a Boil.

4.Add pounded coconut and cook until mixture is sticky but not burned or caramalized. Take off the fire.

5.Add Flour. Mix well. Chop Cadjunuts, ginger preserve and spices. Mix well

6.Add lime rind just before putting in 9×12″ pan. Bake at 325 degrees F, until done.

 

Turn onto platter,place a few fresh flowers on a side to decorate.
