Dr. Lakshman and Thusitha Makandura’s Acclaimed Teledrama ‘Kunchanada’ Will Feature on Sirasa TV Beginning March 20. |
Shot on location, award-winning Sri Lankan director Christy Shelton’s Kunchanada (elephant trumpet) is a tribute to daughter Sarah’s enduring love for the gentle giants of this world by her parents, Dr. Lakshman and Thusitha Makandura, the producers. The resulting forty-episode masterpiece grapples with the rough currents of the elephant-human conflict enacted daily on the rural landscapes of Sri Lanka. This timely yet timeless story is so wonderfully told through Indika Atthanayaka’s expert lens, accompanied by music director Kapila Poogala Arachchi’s cascading score, and it is easy to soak in the story’s emotions, the naturalistic performances of a legendary cast led by Sriyani Amerasena, and the familiar sounds of Sri Lankan villages. This must-watch series will begin featuring on Sirasa TV beginning March 20th at 7.30.

Lotus Tower and Port City
are Revenue Generators
Two iconic projects in South Asia, the Colombo Port City and the Lotus Tower are turning out to be major revenue generators for Sri Lanka. The Lotus Tower which was living on handouts doled out by the Treasury has reversed this negative trend and is now earning revenue not only in rupees but in foreign currency as well. Since its opening a few months ago it has netted in almost Rs. 1 billion erasing the myth that it was a white elephant. The Colombo Port city too is generating income through several leisure projects that have begun operations. Several new investors have expressed interest in investing and the next historic landmark of the Port City will be South Asia’s largest Duty Free shop that will be opened in April next year. |
