Dr kumar rupesinghe passed away on february 19, 2022 in colombo, sri lanka
Dr. Kumar Rupesinghe passed away at his home in Colombo on February 19, 2022. Husband of Marit, father of Anja and Natasja. Son of Dr. Leslie Rupesinghe and Olga Perera. Brother of the late Ajith Rupesinghe, Pravin and Sonali Perera. Funeral arrangements are pending. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at a later date.
A Tribute to Kumar
My cousin Kumar Rupesinghe’s life was emblematic of the values that are so fundamental to our family and
very much needed around the world today. He worked tirelessly for peace and for human rights in Sri Lanka as
well as in other parts of the world. His work encompassed social justice, equity and dignity for ALL. He was a
prolific writer and editor of many academic journals. He chaired several organizations and NGO’s to help bring
attention to global conflicts, in addition he was an august member of many boards around the world and was in the company of distinguished persons, such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, to name just a few.
He was a devoted husband to Marit and his two accomplished and beautiful daughters, Anja and Natasja.
As the oldest cousin in our family, from my father’s side (Jim Wanigatunga), he was larger than life (to me, anyway)
and commanded respect from all the other cousins. We would have arguments, quarrels and heated discussions,
all in the name of family fun. In our adult years, he was a role model to all of us.
I will miss him…..may he Rest In Peace.

74th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence Celebrated in Colombo
The main celebration was held under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Independence Square in Colombo.“When steering the country in the right direction, we know that the support of each and every person in the country cannot be expected. We are not ready to abandon our plans for the country’s future prosperity by looking upon those who will not change. Our objective is to do what is right by the country, and not to please everyone,” President Rajapaksa said.“We can make our way forward, only with a positive attitude that looks optimistically towards the future. We can surmount the challenges we meet only if we dedicate ourselves to a victorious journey.”

Victor Munasinghe (84) passed away in Santa Monica, Ca.
“My close friend Victor Munasinghe passed away on February 1, 2022. Victor’s nephew, Oliver Ranasinghe gave me the sad news this morning. My Pandemic Forecast for the Winter 2021 –
Dr. Deepthi Jayasekara, Glendora, Ca.
We, the people of the world, are in a much favorable position today compared to last winter with the Covid-19 pandemic. After over 5 million reported fatalities globally, we have managed to enrich ourselves with more meaningful and effective tools in the armamentarium against SARS-CoV-2 virus including public health protocols, vaccines, antiviral medications and monoclonal antibody cocktails. Lifesaving therapeutics like IV Remdesivir, anticoagulants, IL-6 inhibitors and steroid treatment in severe infections have saved numerous lives and are deployed as standard of care in the hospitals. Much anticipated oral antiviral pills from Pfizer (Paxlovid) and Merck/ (Molnupiravir) were announced for mild to moderate Covid-19 infections recently. Once approved by FDA, this will be a paradigm shift in the management of ongoing surges of new Covid cases among unvaccinated as well as vaccinated.
